Is it permissible for a wife to remain with a husband who prays only rarely, does not fast, and smokes hashish, claiming that his chronic depression is the reason for his actions, despite his good treatment of her, his frequent charity, and the absence of children between them yet?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Neglecting prayer and fasting are among the greatest sins. One who prays sometimes and neglects it at other times is not judged to be a disbeliever. Likewise, the use of hashish is a reprehensible act and a major sin. The wife is permitted to seek divorce from such a husband, just as she is permitted to remain with him, hoping for his rectification and repentance.
