Did a debate take place between Ali ibn Abi Talib and the Bishop of Rome during the time of Umar ibn al-Khattab?

The story mentioned about the Roman asking Umar ibn al-Khattab a question, and Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with them both) responding, is not authentic. It does not exist in the books of the Sunnis. Rather, the Shiites mention it in their books, such as "Bihar al-Anwar" by Al-Majlisi, and it is among the fabrications that have no basis. The goal behind it is to prove that Ali was more knowledgeable than Umar, despite the fact that Abu al-Malih al-Hudhali and his father are trustworthy narrators from the people of Sunnah, and if the story were true, they would have narrated it.
