Is what the questioner does—visiting graves, touching them, remembering their occupants, reciting Al-Fatiha for them, supplicating to Allah that they intercede on his behalf, and supplicating to Allah to make the martyrs intercede on his behalf—permissible in Islamic law?

Visiting graves is legislated to remember death and the afterlife, to greet the believers, and to supplicate for them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to visit the people of Al-Baqi', greet them, and supplicate for them. It is encouraged to visit them because it reminds one of the Hereafter. It is permissible to seek the intercession of the dead and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from Allah Almighty. A Muslim should be keen to strengthen his faith, perform good deeds, avoid evil deeds, and repent from them.
