Is smoking by a young man considered a sufficient defect to reject his marriage proposal?

Smoking is forbidden, and whoever becomes addicted to it loses their moral uprightness. The general principle is that a woman should choose a righteous and upright husband. However, if she is getting on in years and fears that no one else will propose to her, and this suitor is religiously and morally pleasing in other aspects (observes prayers, is kind in companionship, of good character, and far from vices), then she should seek Allah's guidance through istikharah and accept the marriage to him, advising him later to quit smoking. But if she has other marriage opportunities from upright individuals, she should not accept a smoker, due to his persistence in sin and because the harm of smoking extends to others and causes distress.
