A child born to a Muslim mother and a Christian father is attributed to his father if the marriage is considered valid. Otherwise, if it is a child born out of wedlock (zina), he is attributed to his mother. In both cases, the child follows the religion of his Muslim mother, and the rulings applicable to a newborn in Islam are applied to him.
