The Kurds are scattered peoples and tribes living in Western Asia, particularly in the region known as Greater Kurdistan, which includes parts of Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Turkey. Historians have differed on their origin; some attribute them to "Kurd ibn 'Amr" or "Rabi'a ibn Nizar" or "Mudar ibn Nizar," while others trace them to "Kurd ibn Canaan." However, it appears they are descendants of Shem.

Among the noble Companions, there is only one Kurd, the venerable Companion "Abu Maymun Jaban al-Kurdi," may Allah be pleased with him. Several sources have mentioned him.

Islam emphasizes that superiority among people is not based on lineage or ethnicity, but on piety (taqwa), as stated in the Almighty's قول: (O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted), and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: (There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab, except by piety).
