The answer

A man's statement to his wife: "By God Almighty, I will not stay with you for another moment" is a form of ambiguous divorce pronouncements (kinayat al-talaq). If he intended divorce by it, then divorce occurs. Repeating it with the intention of causing divorce each time leads to divorce occurring as many times as it was repeated. So, if he repeated it three times, divorce occurs three times. However, if by repeating it he intended emphasis and not to effect a new divorce, then divorce occurs only once. If he did not intend divorce with this phrase, but rather intended an oath to cause divorce in the future or to leave the house, then the matter is according to his intention. If he does not act upon it, he owes a single expiation for breaking an oath.
