What is the ruling concerning a child born of adultery to two unbelieving parents, who then embraced Islam, and the child embraced Islam with them after five years from his birth?

If what occurred between the two individuals happened while they believed it to be permissible, then that is a marriage that they are affirmed upon after embracing Islam, according to some scholars, and the child is attributed to the father. However, if it was mere fornication, the child is attributed to the mother and not to the fornicator according to most jurists. Some of them are of the view that if the fornicator acknowledges him, his lineage is attributed to him. In all cases, care must be given to the child, teaching him matters of his religion, and raising him upon the creed and ethics of Islam, and he is judged to be Muslim, following his mother. The spouses are advised to be keen on what helps them remain steadfast in their religion, through knowledge, righteous deeds, and the company of the righteous.
