What is the ruling regarding a woman who commits adultery during her revocable divorce (īddatahā ar-raj'iyyah), and then returns to her husband before its completion?

Adultery is one of the most heinous sins. The woman who committed it must hasten to sincere repentance by abandoning it, regretting her action, and resolving not to return to it. The husband's return to his wife during her waiting period ('iddah) constitutes a valid return. The preponderant opinion according to us is the permissibility for the husband to have intercourse with his adulterous wife before she has cleansed herself (istibra').
