Is it permissible to eat the meat of animals that graze on garbage, and what if the questioner was unaware of that?

If the trash does not contain impurities, then there is no harm in eating the meat of an animal that feeds on it, and such an animal is not considered jallalah. However, if the trash contains impurities, then it is disliked to eat the meat of an animal that feeds on it; this is the opinion of the majority. Some Shafi'is and one narration from Ahmad held the view of prohibition. There is no sin upon one who eats the meat of a jallalah animal or drinks its milk out of forgetfulness, ignorance, or compulsion.
