What is the ruling on reciting Surat Al-Fatihah for the soul of Prophet Muhammad, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him?

Scholars have differed regarding the recitation of Al-Fatiha or other parts of the Qur’an and dedicating its reward to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Some have prohibited this, deeming it an innovation (bid'ah) due to the lack of evidence supporting it. Others have permitted it by analogy with sending prayers upon him and asking for Al-Wasilah for him. The more prudent approach is to refrain from doing so, as it was not narrated from the Salaf, and because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, already receives the reward for every righteous deed performed by his Ummah, for "the one who points to good is like the one who does it."
