Is it permissible for university female students to ask and speak with a young male instructor regarding academic matters?

It is not permissible for a woman to remain in a mixed-gender environment unless there is a necessity. It is permissible for a woman to speak with a man when there is a need, provided there is no khalwa (private seclusion), and that she adheres to modesty, dignity, and the Shar'i (Islamic legal) hijab. She should speak only what is required by the need, without softening her speech or adding more, and with the assurance that there is no fitna (temptation). If lust or familiarity arises from either party, then the conversation becomes forbidden.
