The answer

Zakat is obligatory on money under two conditions: the money reaching the nisab, which is equivalent to (85) grams of gold or (595) grams of silver, and the passing of one lunar year (hawl). The amount of zakat due is one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%).

If the money reaches the nisab and one year passes, zakat becomes obligatory; otherwise, it is not obligatory. Any money acquired after the nisab has been reached should be added to the initial nisab and zakat paid on the total amount when the year passes.

For every year that has passed during which the money reached the nisab and a year passed, but its zakat was not paid, zakat must be paid for that year, and it does not lapse with the passage of time.

Zakat is not obligatory on a car or land that a person owns for personal use. Zakat only becomes obligatory on them if they were purchased with the intention of trade.
