The answer

If one has a wet dream but does not see semen, or smells the odor of semen without finding it, then ghusl is not obligatory upon him, because the obligation of ghusl is contingent upon the presence of semen. However, if one finds semen but does not recall a wet dream, ghusl is obligatory upon him by consensus, due to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If she sees water," and "Indeed, water is from water."
