Scholars have differed on the start of the period for wiping over the khuffs (leather socks) into three opinions:
1. It is calculated from the time of the minor ritual impurity () after wearing them (the opinion of the majority of scholars and Al-Kasani). 2. It is calculated from the time of wearing them. 3. It is calculated from the time of the first wiping.
The most correct opinion is the first one, because the khuff prevents the spread of the hadath, and the need for facilitation and ease arises at the time of the hadath.
