What is the punishment for abandoning jihad in the way of Allah?

Abandoning Jihad when it becomes obligatory is a major sin. If Muslims abandon it, they will be afflicted with humiliation and disgrace, and their affairs will be corrupted. Allah has warned those who abandon Jihad of destruction in this world and the Hereafter, of humiliation and disgrace, and of the descent of torment in this world and the Hereafter, as the verses and hadith have shown.
