What is the optimal course of action with a husband whose treatment has changed, as he has become addicted to shisha, neglected his family, been remiss in his prayers, frequently gone out with his friends, and abused his wife and children with shouting and insults, despite the wife working and bearing most of the household expenses?

If marital problems stem from the husband, the wife should search for the reasons, as she might be the cause due to her shortcomings or obstinacy. If she is not the cause, then she has the choice between patience, advice, and supplication, or seeking separation if she fears for her religion, herself, or her child, or if the husband reaches the point of disbelief by abandoning prayer. The wife should advise her husband gently, involve her family in advising him, and supplicate for him. Husbands must fear Allah regarding their wives, treat them kindly, and emulate the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in good conduct, and try to keep their husbands away from bad company.
