What is the ruling on attending musical weddings?

If one is invited to a wedding feast, it is obligatory for him to accept the invitation, unless the wedding involves a reprehensible act (munkar) that the invitee is unable to change. The use of musical instruments is unanimously considered a reprehensible act. As for singing, if it is accompanied by musical instruments, it is unanimously forbidden. However, the daff (tambourine) is permissible for women on Eids and at weddings. If singing is without an instrument: if it is by a woman for men, it is forbidden; if it is for women with good words on an occasion like a wedding, it is permissible. If it is by a man, it is divided into: good words that encourage virtue – some scholars permitted it while others disliked it, and the correct view is the permissibility of beneficial poetry and huda' (camel-driving chants); and ugly words that encourage vice – this is forbidden.
