What is the ruling on my prayers and fasting after seeing the signs of purity from menstruation, with the continuous presence of bloody discharge due to the insertion of an IUD?
The maximum duration of menstruation, according to the majority of scholars, is fifteen days. If the menstrual period exceeds fifteen days, then the woman is considered to have istiḥāḍah (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding). She should perform ghusl (ritual purification bath) after her usual period ends, and then she may pray, fast, and do everything that ritually pure women do. However, she must take precautions and perform ablution (wuḍūʾ) for every prayer after its time has entered, if the blood is continuous. There is no harm in making up the days that were considered istiḥāḍah.
