Is it permissible to use the phrase "peace be upon them" when addressing innovators about the Family of the Prophet (Ahl al-Bayt), with the intention of winning their hearts and inviting them to the truth?

Scholars differed regarding the ruling on invoking blessings and peace upon others besides the prophets independently. Abu Hanifa and Malik disliked it, while Ahmad permitted it. Ibn al-Qayyim held the view that it is permissible unless it is taken as a slogan orخصص به أحد دون غيره (singles out one person over others). While others held that "As-Salat" (invoking blessings) is a term specifically designated for prophets in the language of the Salaf, and that "As-Salam" (invoking peace) is permissible for every believer, whether living or dead. The upshot is that it is not appropriate to single out Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) or any of the Companions for invoking blessings and peace when mentioning them, due to lack of evidence, and because it may suggest his superiority over others, and because it has become a شعار (slogan) for the people of innovation. However, if there is a benefit that necessitates it, there is no harm, but it is preferred to mention invoking peace upon the other Companions to avoid resembling the people of innovation.
