What is the ruling on animal races and training camels with striking to achieve advanced positions?

Beauty contests are permissible, and they are what is meant by "al-khaff" (light-footed animals) in the Prophetic Hadeeth. It is permissible to race in them for a prize given to the winner by the Imam, a third party, or one of the contestants, provided that the prize is not from both contestants together unless a third party joins them. The majority of scholars stipulate the presence of a rider for the camels in the race. It is not permissible to harm the animal with severe beating that is detrimental to it, while light beating as needed for teaching and training is permissible.
