The madhhab of Imam Abu Hanifa is a recognized madhhab among the Sunnis, and a large group of their scholars have gained knowledge from it. The four madhhabs rely on the sources of legislation, such as the Qur'an, Sunnah, Ijma' (consensus), and Qiyas (analogy). Their imams followed the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and they are: Abu Hanifa, Malik, Al-Shafi'i, and Ahmad ibn Hanbal. Ijtihad (independent reasoning) is presented to the sources of legislation; what conforms to them is accepted, and what contradicts them is rejected. The blameworthy opinion is that which contradicts the legal evidence, not the opinion derived from legal evidence. Among the most famous authoritative texts in Hanafi jurisprudence are: Matn al-Quduri and Kanz al-Daqa'iq by Al-Nasafi.
