What is the ruling concerning a husband who abandoned his wife for a full year without providing for her or asking about her, then returned to divorce her while subservient to the wishes of his mother and sisters who are trying to sabotage their relationship?

The permissibility or impermissibility of a husband abandoning his wife has been previously explained, as has the wife's right to claim the expenses she incurred for herself, unless she is disobedient (nashiz). The marital relationship should be built on understanding, affection, and compassion. If the spouses reach an impasse, then "But if they separate, Allah will enrich each of them from His abundance" (Quran 4:130).
