The answer

Al-Sa'di said in his commentary on the verse: (And We did not send before you except men to whom We revealed, so ask the people of the Reminder if you do not know with clear proofs and the scriptures. And We revealed to you the Reminder that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them and that they might give thought): "The prophets were men, not angels. So ask the people of the Reminder (the people of the previous scriptures) if you do not know that Allah sent only men. This verse praises the people of knowledge, commands the ignorant to refer to them, and attests to their trustworthiness in conveying Allah's revelation. The best of the people of the Reminder are the people of the Glorious Quran. And Allah revealed the Quran (the Reminder) to you so that you may make clear to the people its words and meanings that were sent down to them, and that they might give thought to it."
