Does the Hadith have authority over the Qur’an by abrogation or by specification?

The Qur’an and Sunnah are sources of Islamic legislation. The Sunnah clarifies what is general in the Book of Allah, particularizes its generalities, and restricts its unrestricted statements. The majority of jurists permit the particularization of the generalities of the Holy Qur’an by the Prophetic Sunnah, citing the consensus of the Companions on this matter. As for the abrogation of Qur’anic texts by the Sunnah, scholars hold two differing opinions: The majority do not permit abrogation of the Qur’an by Ahad (single-chain) Sunnah, while some jurists have held that it is permissible to abrogate the Qur’an by Ahad Sunnah if its later occurrence is established.
