What is the ruling on money mixed with stolen money, and what should I do to purify my wealth?

You must be cautious in expelling the haram money given to you by your parents and returning it to them directly or indirectly. If you give away the equivalent amount of the haram money from your own wealth, then your ذمة (liability) is cleared. Al-Nawawi said: "If one knows there is haram in it but doubts its amount, he should expend the amount of the haram through ijtihad (independent reasoning)."
