The answer

A woman appearing before non-mahram men without hijab is a great sin, because the hijab is obligatory upon Muslim women according to the texts of the Quran and Sunnah and the consensus of the Ummah. Allah Almighty says: "O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused." It is obligatory to wear the hijab and not to remove it, and the family should be a help in this. If the woman repents sincerely to Allah, then Allah accepts repentance and forgives sins. Allah Almighty says: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" And "O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into Gardens beneath which rivers flow." Sincere repentance is the immediate cessation of the sin, remorse for what has passed, and the firm resolve not to return to it.
