What is the meaning of: "Whoever seeks something will be aided in it, and whoever seeks something will be entrusted to it"?

The prophetic hadith, "O Abd al-Rahman ibn Samurah, do not ask for leadership. For if you are given it without asking, you will be aided in it; but if you are given it as a result of asking, you will be left to it," means that whoever seeks leadership or judgeship will not be aided in it, but rather will be left to their own devices, which may lead to the loss of both this world and the Hereafter. From this, the dislike of seeking positions related to governance is inferred. The hadith is interpreted as applying to the general case, otherwise, Joseph (peace be upon him) did ask for authority by saying: "Appoint me over the treasuries of the land. Indeed, I am a guardian, knowing."
