Does the heart prostrate?

The prostration of the heart is a spiritual, not a physical, prostration. It signifies the humility and brokenness that a servant feels when he considers Allah's immense blessings upon him and deems himself unworthy of them due to his sins and lack of good deeds, as mentioned by Ibn al-Qayyim. This feeling renders the heart broken and humble before Allah. The servant then minimizes his acts of obedience and magnifies his sins, becoming closest to Allah's mercy and help. This broken heart is the most beloved of hearts to Allah. It has been said that the heart prostrates a prostration from which it does not raise its head until the Day of Encounter. If the heart performs this great prostration, all the limbs prostrate with it, showing reverence and humility.
