Is it permissible to break a votive fast for a banquet and then make up the day, knowing Allah Almighty's saying: "They fulfill vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread"?

It is impermissible for someone observing an obligatory fast to break it if invited to a banquet or any other gathering, and there is an agreement on this. However, if the fast is supererogatory, the preponderant opinion is that it is permissible to break it.
