Does maintaining ties of kinship include maternal uncles with the same status as paternal full brothers?
Scholars have differed regarding the kinship ties (Rahim) that are obligatory to maintain. The most authoritative view is that it includes anyone with whom you have a marital impediment (mahramiyya), making marriage between you unlawful. Examples include: fathers and mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers, brothers and sisters, children and their offspring, paternal uncles and aunts, and maternal uncles and aunts.
Some scholars are of the opinion that the kinship ties obligatory to maintain encompass all relatives, whether or non-mahram.
Based on this, your paternal uncles—your father's brothers from his mother's side—are obligatory to maintain ties with according to both opinions, and their obligation of kinship is on par with his full brothers.
