What is the ruling on using the pirated discs I possess, and is it permissible for me to obtain copyrighted software from the internet for free or to use crack programs to get the serial number, and is it permissible for me to help friends and neighbors install or solve problems with the pirated software they have?

It is permissible to continue using copied software if an original copy cannot be obtained and the user needs it. However, if an original copy is available or there is an alternative that renders it unnecessary, then it is not permissible to keep the copied version. It is not permissible to obtain such programs through pirating software, just as it is not permissible to assist others in installing what is not permissible to copy, for Allah Almighty says: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression."
