Is it permissible to reduce the weight of a packaged liter of milk from 1030 grams to 1000 grams and sell it as a full liter, while returning to the original weight when inspectors arrive? Is it permissible to continue working in this factory? If it is not permissible, must one leave the job immediately or after finding another job?

Placing 1000 grams instead of 1030 grams is prohibited deception, and it is one of the major sins, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever deceives is not of me." It is not permissible for a worker to do so even if the owner of the factory orders him to, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to Allah, the Mighty and Exalted." The factory owner must be advised, and if he insists and the work cannot be done except by participating in deception, then one must leave the job and seek another, for Allah has guaranteed a way out and provision for the pious.
