Is stoning in Islam derived from the Gospel or from the Prophetic Sunnah?

The punishment of stoning for the married fornicator is established by the Qur’an and Sunnah. The verse of stoning was revealed, then its recitation was abrogated, but its ruling remained. Islam is the seal of religions, and whoever does not enter it is astray and will abide eternally in the Fire, for Allah Almighty says: (And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers). The Qur’an abrogates and supersedes previous heavenly books, and the Sunnah is a revelation from Allah and clarifies the Qur’an.
