Is it permissible to eat stolen food in a city where nothing else is available due to war and the flight of shop owners, leading citizens to break into them and take what is inside?

It is impermissible to consume stolen food, except in cases of dire necessity and fear of perishing, and if no permissible food is available. In such a situation, one may eat only as much as is needed to avert the necessity, based on the Almighty's saying: "And He has explained to you in detail what He has forbidden you, except that to which you are compelled." (Al-An'am: 119).
