The verse speaks of the keys to the unseen, which Allah alone possesses knowledge of, including knowledge of what is in the wombs. Allah knows the reality of what the wombs carry—whether it is a pregnancy, a decrease, or an increase. He knows the characteristics of the fetus, its features, its masculinity or femininity, its misery or happiness, and when it will be delivered. His exclusive knowledge is not contradicted by some doctors knowing the gender of the fetus in the later stages, because the unseen is of two types: absolute, which only Allah knows, and relative, which some servants may come to know after divine knowledge. Some contemporary scholars and doctors see no objection to doctors observing the formed reproductive organs at the sixteenth week.
