Is a person who sincerely bears witness to the Two Testimonies and believes in them, yet never performs any good deeds, considered to be among the people of the disbelief of turning away (kufr al-i’rad)? And is this a matter of scholarly disagreement?

A truly believing human cannot perform absolutely no good deeds, for such a thing only emanates from hypocrisy and heresy in the heart. If faith and love for Allah are established in the heart, then the body must necessarily move in accordance with that, through apparent words and deeds. For apparent deeds are the product and proof of what is in the heart. As for what is mentioned in the hadiths about people entering Paradise who performed no good deeds whatsoever, the intention is to signify a scarcity of their deeds or the existence of an excuse for them. As for the disbelief of aversion (kufr al-i'rad), it is broader than averting from action. It manifests as the heart and ears turning away from the Messenger, neither believing him nor disbelieving him, neither befriending him nor showing enmity towards him, and never listening to what he brought.
