Does an employee's salary being his sole source of income contradict perfect reliance on Allah and striving upon the earth?

If the salary is sufficient to meet one's needs and the needs of those under his care, then it is permissible for him to leave his work, because seeking earnings is only obligatory to meet needs and repay debts, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "It is sufficient sin for a man to neglect those whom he is responsible to feed." The Prophet (peace be upon him) "used to sell the date palms of Banu an-Nadir and keep for his family enough provisions for their year."

The majority of scholars hold that earning, when not intended for accumulation, is better than devoting oneself entirely to worship if it is meant as a means to obey Allah and benefit others, based on his (peace be upon him) saying: "The most beloved of people to Allah Almighty are those who are most beneficial to people."

Based on this, there is no impediment to relying on the received salary without other work, as long as it is sufficient to meet one's needs and the needs of those whose maintenance is obligatory upon him.
