What is the ruling on a child fasting up to the age of ten?
The signs of puberty are: nocturnal emission (wet dream), or the appearance of coarse pubic hair, or reaching fifteen lunar years of age. Before puberty, fasting is not obligatory upon the child by the consensus of Muslims. However, it is obligatory for the guardian to command the child to fast at the age of seven and to strike them for it at the age of ten, so as to accustom and train them in acts of obedience and worship.
