Does a woman break her fast and stop praying if she sees small spots of blood after she has become pure?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Menstrual problems are numerous, and their main cause is birth control pills. If a woman sees definite purity - which is the white discharge (al-qassah al-bayḍā') - then whatever she sees after that, be it a brownish discharge (kudrah), yellowish discharge (ṣufrah), a spot, or wetness, is not menstruation, and it does not prevent prayer, fasting, or sexual intercourse. This is based on the statement of Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her): "We did not consider the yellowish or brownish discharge after purity to be anything." A woman must not hasten until she sees definite purity.
