What is the ruling on shunning a father who harms his son with insults and curses, and accuses his son and his friends of terrorism and slanders their honor because of their religiosity and the ذكر (Dhikr) gatherings they hold, knowing that the son does not live with his father?

Righteousness towards parents and benevolence towards them are obligatory. If a righteous man honors his father despite his father's hurtful actions, this might lead the father to reconsider his behavior. It is not permissible to abandon a parent due to their mistreatment unless abandonment is the only way to prevent further harm. The son must continue in his obedience and uprightness, and his reward will be magnified in proportion to the difficulties he faces. He should be benevolent towards his father, advise him with wisdom, and pray for his guidance.
