At what age does the obligation to offer an udhiyah (sacrifice) apply with regard to children?
A single sacrifice () is sufficient for a father and his children whom he supports, based on the of Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him). There is no specific age for this; as long as the child is under the father's financial care, one sacrifice is sufficient for both of them. If the child becomes financially independent, it is then for him to offer a sacrifice on his own behalf. However, if the intention is to sacrifice on behalf of minors who possess their own wealth and are not under the care of a father, such as orphans, the preponderant opinion is that it is permissible to purchase a sacrifice for them from their own money, provided that this does not cause them harm.
