Is atonement for oaths obligatory after repenting from them, and does repentance supersede what preceded it?

You are obligated to offer expiation for the oaths you have broken, and repentance alone is not sufficient. If you owe more than one expiation and are able to ascertain their number, you must offer them. Otherwise, you should offer what you believe will absolve you, because expiation is a right that is not waived except by performance. As for repentance, it is an expiation for sin. It is permissible to retract an oath through an exception that is connected to it; otherwise, it is not.
