Is it permissible to download programs that bear names or images forbidden by Islamic law, or that contain prohibitions that can be avoided, knowing that downloading them increases their spread and popularity?

Naming software programs after forbidden things or having their logos symbolize the forbidden does not necessitate the prohibition of using them for permissible purposes. Some jurists consider it disliked, but not forbidden, to wear items with a cross image. Therefore, it is even more appropriate that using programs named after or symbolizing alcohol should not be forbidden, and the name "Liberty" is even less problematic. There is no religious impediment to downloading and using these programs for permissible purposes, while avoiding anything forbidden, because things that can be used for both permissible and forbidden purposes are allowed to be sold and acquired by those who use them for permissible purposes. This is not considered assisting in what is forbidden. However, if programs completely free of objectionable elements are available, they are more preferable to use.
