Is it permissible to continue debating with non-Muslims to defend Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and refute their misconceptions, knowing that the debater is not specialized in Islamic sciences but relies on study and research before answering?

Responding to the people of falsehood and their claims is a noble deed and a great honor, and it is part of giving sincere advice for the sake of Allah, His Messenger, and His Book. In refuting them, a Muslim needs knowledge and certainty to be safe from being affected by their specious arguments. It is not a prerequisite for this knowledge to have been acquired from an Islamic university, or for one to be a memorizer of the Qur'an; rather, it suffices that one possesses enough knowledge and ability to clarify the truth to people. One should also consult scholars regarding anything that might be unclear to them.
