Is a man's tribulation with a wife who disobeys him, fabricates lies against him, reveals his household secrets, slanders his reputation, and attempts to harm him, a sign of Allah's wrath upon him?

The tribulations that befall a person are not necessarily a punishment for a sin. Indeed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was afflicted with severe tribulation, yet he was forgiven for all his past and future sins. Tribulation may also be an expiation for sins, as stated in the Hadith of Ibn Mas'ud. However, tribulation may also be due to sins committed by a person, as in the Almighty's saying: "And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is because of what your hands have earned." If the wife is disobedient (nashiz), the husband should try to remedy her disobedience. If her condition does not improve, he may divorce her, because her continued disobedience may prevent his prayers from being answered, as stated in the Hadith: "Three whose supplications are not answered: a man who had a ill-tempered wife and did not divorce her."
