If a man fainted while he was fasting, does his fast become void?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Maliki and Hanbali madhhab concerning one who faints in Ramadan:

- If the unconsciousness covers the entire day, meaning from before Fajr until after sunset, then his fast is not valid and he must make it up. This is because fasting is abstention with intention, and abstention is not attributed to one who is unconscious.

- If he regains consciousness for part of the day, even for a moment, his fast is valid, whether he woke up at the beginning, end, or middle of the day. This is due to his general abstention from things that break the fast.
