A woman observing the 'iddah (waiting period) after her husband's death is not permitted to leave the marital home before her 'iddah concludes, except out of necessity, such as fear for her life, property, honor, or disruption of her livelihood. In these circumstances, she is allowed to move to a place where she feels safe, such as her father's house or the home of one of her maharim (unmarriageable kin).
