Al-Bukhari narrated that Uthman burned the copies of the Qur’an that differed from the one he had sent out, and none of the Companions objected to that. Ibn Battal was of the view that this indicates the permissibility of burning books that contain the name of Allah, as a way of honoring them. Marwan also burned the scriptures of Hafsa after her death.
