The answer

It is permissible for a woman to lead women in obligatory prayers and Taraweeh, and she stands in the middle of the first row. If the follower is only one woman, she stands to the right of the woman leading her. Scholars have differed on this issue, with some allowing it and others prohibiting it. The prevailing opinion is that it is permissible for a woman to lead other women in prayer, as this is established from Aisha and Umm Salama, may Allah be pleased with them. However, a woman leading men in prayer is absolutely not permissible, whether they are her mahrams or not, and regardless of whether they are young or old.
